Contests and Awards

There are several contests and awards at national, state, and county levels for individual and groups who are promoting awareness of recycling and environmental issues.

Environmental Contests for Students

The Johnston County Soil and Water Conservation District sponsors several poster and essay contests on environmental issues throughout the year for local students. These include a poster contest for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students; an essay contest for 5th and 6th grade students; and a PowerPoint contest for 6th grade students. The contest theme is based on an environmental topic that rotates each year.

Community Environmental Recognitions

The Johnston County Soil and Water Conservation District recognizes local farmers every year for outstanding conservation efforts. Three awards are given:

  • Tree Farmer of the Year
  • River Friendly Farmer of the Year
  • Conservation Farm Family of the Year
