Laboratory Services
Johnston County Health Department provides quality-assured laboratory services for standard public health programs. These programs are operated in accordance with the requirements of General Statute 130A-9 and the guidelines issued by the Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources. These services are in accordance with Memorandum of Understanding between the Division of Medical Assistance and the Department of Environment, Health and Natural Resources. All functions of laboratories are regulated by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment of 1998.
Lab services consist of clinical tests that are performed to:
- Aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and conditions.
- Monitor the response to treatment.
- Screen for asymptomatic disease and conditions.

- Blood Lead
- Sickle Cell
- Rapid Group A Strep
- Urinalysis
- Urine Pregnancy
- Extensive analysis for transmitted disease
- Comprehensive Prenatal Panel
- Other test as ordered by physician
A Quality Assurance program is maintained to monitor, evaluate and document the ongoing and overall quality of the total testing process.
Safety is always maintained for the protection of staff, clients and the general public regarding specimen collection, laboratory operations, and disposal of wastes.
Eligibility is determined based on the sliding fee scale in accordance with the Health Department policy for charging fees for services and financial eligibility determinations. No public laboratory service will be denied based solely on a client's inability to pay.
