Agricultural Conservation Easements

The primary purpose of conservation easements supported by Johnston Soil and Water Conservation District Board and Staff is to protect farmland and the agricultural use of such lands in Johnston County. 

The rate of farmland loss in North Carolina and Johnston County are among the fastest in the nation.

 Farmland Loss Projections by 2040 

Economic Impact:

* 9,100 farms lost

                                     * $1.25 billion reduction in farm output

* 19,600 jobs lost

 

The *Runaway Sprawl Model projects 1,678,100 acres lost by 2040 in NC

Total size of the State of Delaware: 1,592,871 acres
