Johnston County Facebook post March 6, 2023

At this morning's Board of Commissioners meeting, Johnston County 911 Communications Director,
Brett Renfrow, spoke with the Board about reclassifying 911 dispatchers from "Office Administrative
Support" to "Protective Service Occupations." The Board unanimously adopted the resolution that
stemmed from the 9-1-1 Saves Act, which is part of bipartisan legislation that 911 dispatchers are
working with elected officials to reintroduce to Congress later this year.

Our 911 Communications team is an integral part of public safety in Johnston County. Not only do they
dispatch emergency services and coordinate life-saving support for the public, but they also have helped
callers initiate CPR, offered support during childbirth, given instructions to choking victims, and have
even helped residents trapped in an active structure fire.

Many of the men and women who stand ready to receive these emergency calls were in attendance at this
morning's meeting and we thank them for their dedicated service to Johnston County.
