How to Apply for a Building Permit

Submit the following items

• Completed Application Form
  • Residential Permit Application
  • Commercial Permit Application
•  Complete site plan
•  2 sets of construction plans  
•  Copy of the septic permit
•  Copy of well permit or receipt from Public Utilities showing the water tap is paid
•  Lien agent form from www.liensnc.com

Permit Applications and Plan Submittal

Applications for permits and plans will be accepted as follows:

• By email to inspections@johnstonnc.com (if the plans are legible at 11x17)
• Dropped off at the Building Inspections office in the Land Use Center, 309 E Market Street, Smithfield, NC

Payment Methods

• With a credit card  (we accept VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover). 
• Check made to Johnston County Inspections
