Photo ID Commercial Airing Across NC

Raleigh, N.C. — "Make Your Voice Heard and Bring It! Your ID. Your vote."

That’s the message hitting TV screens across North Carolina in the coming weeks, as the State Board of Elections’ voter photo ID education campaign ramps up as the 2024 general election approaches.

Thirty-second TV spots will air on cable and network television channels in all North Carolina media markets and at all times of day between now and Election Day, November 5. Watch the commercial below.

"These commercials are part of a huge effort to remind voters that they should bring an acceptable for of photo ID when they vote," said Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the State Board. "The ID requirement was implemented successfully during the March primary, and we hope for the same with early voting in October and Election Day on November 5."

The 30-second TV ad features an actor standing on a "voting site" set and explaining the four most important points about the NC photo ID law:

  1. Whether voting in-person or by mail, North Carolina voters will be asked to show photo ID.
  2. Voters can show their driver’s license, but many other forms of photo ID will be accepted.
  3. Registered voters who do not have a photo ID can get one for free from their county board of elections or an NCDMV office.
  4. Voters without ID can still vote by filling out a form explaining why they can’t show ID, or by casting a provisional ballot and showing their ID at their county board of elections office by 5 p.m. November 14.

The commercial ends with a plug for BringItNC.gov, where voters can learn all about the photo ID requirement, including which types of ID will be accepted at voting sites.

The television commercial is part of the State Board’s photo ID outreach campaign in 2024. Ads also will run on radio, websites (online display and video), digital billboards, social media, and in newspapers statewide.

Additionally, a second informational mailer will be arriving in mailboxes across North Carolina over the next few weeks. And State Board staff are conducting educational seminars for county boards of elections and other organizations, upon request.
