Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)

STI Services are available to all persons without regard to income or place of residence. Services are at no charge to patients. • Gonorrhea (GC)

STI Facts

  • STIs are spread during sexual activities. Many people do not have symptoms and can infect their partners without knowing it.
  • Serious consequences such as sterility, heart disease, insanity, and paralysis can occur from untreated or recurrent infections.
  • STIs can be passed on to an unborn child during pregnancy.
  • Chances of contracting STIs can be prevented or reduced by abstinence, condoms, and a monogamous (one-partner) sexual relationship.
  • Early testing and treatment can help stem the spread of the disease and also limit development of long-term problems. Most but not all STIs can be cured with the right medications. However, all sexual partners, past and present, should be evaluated.
